Course Description
This course introduces the interpreting industry and profession. Students learn about the knowledge and skills that are necessary to navigate the interpreting market as a practicing interpreter. Course activities include lectures and workshops. Lecture sessions cover topics such as conference preparation, on-the-job training, professional ethics, client and collegial relations, business skills, etc. Instructors and guest speakers will deliver presentations and lead discussions about these topics. Workshop sessions require students to attend events where interpreting services are provided and make field observations, provide auxiliary services to interpreted meetings and events, and/or provide interpreting services in the capacity of an intern.
